Rio Cardines continued his excellent start to the season away from Crystal Palace by registering two assists in Bristol City’s 2-1 Championship comeback against Burnley. The 20-year-old has now completed four consecutive 90-minute appearances and has provided an assist in each of those matches.
Cardines’ latest contributions came from set pieces. His corner was met by Rob Dickie for Bristol City’s equaliser, before another delivery in stoppage time was only partially cleared and ultimately led to Yuki Hirakawa’s winning goal. The result moved Bristol City up to fourth in the Championship with 10 points from five matches, ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Southampton.
Romain Esse also enjoyed a positive return to his former club after rejoining Millwall on a season-long loan on Deadline Day. The 21-year-old made his second debut for the Lions in a 4-0 home victory over Bolton Wanderers, creating several chances with dangerous deliveries and coming close to scoring before being substituted midway through the second half.
Elsewhere, Hindolo Mustapha came off the bench for Notts County in their 1-1 draw with Callum Roberts’ side. The Palace forward entered the game in the 67th minute and has now featured in all five matches for which he has been eligible since joining the League One club in August.
Owen Goodman started Dundee’s 1-1 draw with St Johnstone and also played in their narrow defeat to Hearts, taking his run to seven consecutive starts since arriving on loan. Borna Sosa, meanwhile, was an unused substitute as FC Köln lost 4-1 to his former side VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
