Pressure is mounting on Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage after the Eagles suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat at Brighton, with serious questions now being asked about his position.

Palace fan Ollie Thomas said the result reflected defensive problems that had been building across recent matches. In his view, the defeat should prompt changes to the team’s style, shape and personnel, although he stopped short of saying that a change in the dugout is certain.

Thomas does not expect Sage to remain in charge, arguing that Palace could be postponing an inevitable decision. He described the Eagles’ defensive record as the worst in the Premier League by a significant margin and warned that continuing to defend in the same way could leave the club fighting near the bottom of the table.

He also believes the problem goes beyond individual absences. Thomas said that even the return of Maxence Lacroix and Marc Guehi would not necessarily prevent Palace from conceding a high number of chances, suggesting that the wider defensive structure needs attention.

Axel Disasi’s red card at Brighton made those concerns more apparent, while some Palace supporters have already formed a negative view of the defender. Thomas, however, argued that Disasi should remain an important part of the squad and could become a defensive cornerstone this season. His return would give Sage more options and, crucially, the opportunity to establish greater consistency in the back four.
