Adam Wharton believes Crystal Palace can build on their Conference League triumph and make another serious run in Europe when they begin their Europa League campaign against Lech Poznan on Thursday at 20:00 BST.

Wharton played in 18 of Palace's 19 European matches during their route to silverware in 2025/26. The midfielder feels that experience, combined with the squad's familiarity with European football, gives the Eagles a strong platform in the club's first Europa League campaign.

The 22-year-old has made clear that Palace's ambition is to reach the latter stages and compete for the trophy, while also recognising that the Europa League represents a step up from last season's competition. He believes the lessons learned from the successful run can help the team handle the demands of the tournament.

Lech Poznan, the Polish champions, provide Palace's opening challenge, with the match also expected to bring a strong travelling support to Selhurst Park. Wharton is confident the home crowd will create an atmosphere capable of helping the Eagles make a positive start.

The midfielder could again partner Quinten Timber, who has started Palace's last two Premier League matches. Wharton has been impressed by the Dutchman's energy and defensive work, particularly during the recent game against Ipswich when Palace were reduced to 10 men, and believes the new arrival has already made a valuable contribution.

Wharton also remains focused on earning an England recall after narrowly missing out on the summer World Cup squad. He said Thomas Tuchel had told him the decision was close, but the midfielder insists his priority is continuing to improve with Palace and accepting whatever decision is made when the next England squad is announced.
