Abbie Larkin praised Crystal Palace’s commitment after her goal helped the team earn a point away to Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Speaking to Palace TV after the final whistle, the Palace forward acknowledged the difficulty of facing Villa on home soil. She felt Palace had produced a committed performance and believed the team had been unfortunate not to take all three points, while accepting that a draw was a positive result compared with defeat.
Larkin made the decisive contribution in the 74th minute, finding the net for the first time this season. The goal came during her first WSL start of the campaign as she continues to compete for a regular role in Palace’s attack.
The forward created the opportunity for herself after receiving the ball with room to take on a defender. She shifted the ball before finding the finish, and afterwards expressed hope that the performance would help her establish her place in the starting line-up.
Larkin will now join Shanade Hopcroft and Hayley Nolan with the Republic of Ireland squad for their October internationals. She said the international break would provide an opportunity to build confidence before Palace regroup ahead of their home meeting with West Ham on Sunday, 18th October. Tickets for that fixture are on sale.
